2017 Interior Color Trends

As the New Year approaches, it's likely that you are thinking about goals for 2017. We suggest adding home decor and improvements to your to-do list for the new year.

When it comes to colors, sophisticated hues are taking center stage. Words to best describe the 2017 color palette are confident, composed and comfortable. It's likely that creative types will be drawn to the confident colors defined by dusky blues, rich and spicy reds, and lime greens.

If you are looking to keep your home classic and composed, earthy greens and taupes will likely be the go-to colors for traditionalists. Pinks, blues, and yellows can make any space pop, that's why these shades are ideal for those looking to make small but bold moves.

These shades have already started to catch fire this year, so if you need some assistance imagining how they might look in your own space we have got you covered.

Dusky Blues:

Dark blues are the perfect way to add class and confidence to any room. If you are looking for a change that is sure to calm and soothe, dusky blues make a great choice. This color is a great look for a kitchen or living room.

Earthy Greens:

If you are looking to brighten up any room in your home but do not want to go with bold colors, an earthy green is a perfect choice. It is clean, calm and collected. Try this color in the study or even a bedroom.

Bright Yellows:

If you want a fun change, yellow is a great go-to. Some interior designers suggest painting your floors a bright yellow to add an element of fun and zest to your home. This color is perfect for a bathroom or bedroom.

3 Ways to Transform Your Home with Paint

No matter if you are looking to conceal the marks left on your walls by the last homeowners or tenants, make your space feel cozier, or you’re simply tired of the current look of your interior, there is nothing quite like the effect a fresh coat of paint to completely transform the space. Best of all, it’s an easy way to transform the inside of your home without breaking the bank. From eclectic to traditional, we’ve got you covered with these paint techniques.

1. Enlarge the space with cool colors.

It's quite common for homeowners to want to enlarge their living spaces. Painting the room with cool shades that reflect light, like deep and natural blues, greens, and purples can have a depth amplifying effect.

2. Geometric shapes or patterns can breathe new life into a room.

Geometric patterns like chevron or triangles have the potential to significantly liven up a bland room. If you are looking to add some flare and spice to a room, try adding a subtle pattern to the walls.

3. Color blocking is a great way to change things up.

Color blocking is a simple way to refresh a room. Keep it classic and understated with a color blocked pattern, or try a few blocks of a certain color on one wall and keep it different on the other walls.

Getting creative and having some fun with the paint color in your home can result in rooms that "wows"! We can help transform the rooms in your home with our expertise. Give us a call for a free estimate at 970.215.9747.

Don't Let Small Mistakes Become Big Ones

Whether you did your last paint job yourself or hired a not so professional company, the smallest mistakes can turn into big ones a few years down the line. In order to avoid mistakes, choose a company that gets the small stuff right each and every time. Painting is more than just applying coats of paint and primer, there are major do’s and don’ts to abide by in order to prevent mistakes from being made. Here at Hensel Painting we sweat the small stuff in order to ensure the job gets done right and can withstand the test of time.

Bubbles

When bubbles appear on the surface of any painted wall, it typically means that the paint was applied in an environment whose temperature was too hot or too cold. Extreme weather or temperatures affect the chemical make up of paint causing abnormalities to arise, ones that wouldn’t occur on a day with mild weather. Bubbled paint or paint with a dimpled surface is often found on walls with latex and acrylic finishes or when applied to a naturally porous surface like brick or plywood. Along with temperature, shaking the paint before its application or rapidly rolling paint onto the surface being painted can increase the chances of the painting bubbling.

 Peeling

This one is pretty simple. Peeling occurs because there is no adhesive between the paint and the underlying later. The best way to avoid peeling is to sand the surface before painting. Sandpaper disrupts the base surface enough to create a place for the paint to attach itself to.

Cracking

There are three types of cracking that happens when painting. The three groups of cracking are mud cracks, hairline cracks and alligator cracks. Just because paint cracking can happen, does not mean it should be expected or tolerated. If you are working with painters who know their stuff, cracking should be nonexistent. Mud cracking is a product of applying paint too thick on a surface that wasn’t entirely clean. Hairline cracks appear when the particular paint contains low adhesive properties, if the paint is cheap, or when it is over spread. Alligator cracks are a result of paint being applied on top of a wet glossy finish or base coat.

Small mistakes seem harmless at first! Don't settle for paint job that isn't just what you want. Say no to the bubbles, cracking and peeling and give Hensel Painting a call. Doing it yourself or consulting painting companies without the necessary experience is the quickest way to end up with a paint job you will regret. Prepare Your Home For Winter

hensel.jpg

It is common for your heat bill to skyrocket as the colder months roll in. Why? Cold air always seems to find its way into the home through windows and cracks, causing a noticeable shift in temperature! You crank up the heat and your utility bill spikes. It is a vicious cycle that can be stopped this winter season. The Department of Energy says that cold drafts alone can waste up to 30% of your homes energy during the winter. If you are hoping to protect your home for the cold this season, we offer quality services for a price that can’t be beaten. Here are a few ways we at Hensel Painting start the home winterizing process.

Seal It Up

The sealing of cracks and leaks is the first step of the home winterizing process. When cold air seeps in between walls, the home has to work much harder to heat itself. By adding a coat of primer and exterior paint to door frames and windows, less heat is going to escape.

Air Conditions

Not only does cold air cause temperature to drop inside the home but also it allows moisture to settle between the walls of your home. Moisture in tiny cracks results in rotting and severe damage to the wood. Not only does this cause interior heating issues, it also contaminates the air your family breathes. Before the frosty months arrive, we can protect the your home with high quality primer and caulking! Filling any holes in your exterior is the next best step.

Clean Gutters

Although the fall leaves are a beautiful sight, they are not what you want inside your gutters this winter. Once your gutters are clogged and the snow sets in, you are in for a surprise come springtime! Clogged gutters wont allow for the snow run off to pass through ducts and downspouts. Any build up of water in those ducts will freeze as temperature drops. It then becomes highly likely that they will be ripped off the siding of your home.

Your safety, health and budget are our prime concerns this winter season. Set you home up to make it through this winter damage free with the help of Hensel Painting. If you know that your home is in need of a little winterization, give us a call before its too late. Jake Frost is coming!

Choose the Perfect Exterior Color For Your Home

Choosing any paint color is generally a tough task. If you thought deciding on the color scheme of a bedroom or office space was difficult, choosing a color for the outside of your home isn’t any easier.  Although there are hundreds of options to choose from, don't become overwhelmed. There are a few factors to consider before finalizing the newest color of your home. Whether you are updating the exterior color for resale purposes or simply for a fresh start, here are some great ideas to take into account.

Consider your surroundings

Although choosing the color of your exterior is ultimately about what you envision fro your home, it is always a great idea to take a look at the other houses on the block. If ascetics are something you value, refrain from choosing a color that clashes with the homes next to yours. However, you also don’t want to pick a color that appears too much like the others. Strive to pick a color that is unique to your home but has a way of complementing the others on the street.

Trim and Other Accent Features

Once you have settled on the main color, choosing an accent or trim color is the next piece of the puzzle. Accent colors have a way of either completely ruining the look of the home or transforming it for the better. To avoid any color clashing, create a color scheme! Consider what color will look best on the trim, the shutters, rain ducts or pipes on the exterior.

Landscaping

Your landscaping should always highlight the most amazing details of your home. Although landscaping can be changed much for easily than paint color, you want to take into account what your yard would look like against the color you are going with. If your home is lined with wonderful rose bushes, vibrant red paint may not be the best choice for your home. You want to avoid any blending between your home and the yard.

The Final Step

Before you commit to any one color, it is a great idea to try a few out first. How a color appears on a swatch can be drastically different to how it looks on the wall, much less in the dark or in daylight. It cant hurt to expose your possible colors to different environments, that way you truly know which one is for you and your home.

If you are overwhelmed by the thought of choosing a color scheme for your home, give us a call here at Hensel Painting. We Paint Even the Spookiest of Houses

We Paint Even the Spookiest of Houses

Halloween is approaching which means its time to decorate the exterior of your house! While you are getting into the spooky spirit with the family, take this opportunity outside to observe the condition of the existing paint job on your home. If you are unsure how to tell if your home is in need of some help, here are a few signs that it may be time for a fresh paint job.

Peeling Paint

This is one of the first signs that your home is in need of a fresh paint job. Peeling paint seems pretty harmless but in reality, it is the fastest way to ruin the exterior of your home. If you have reached this point, call in the professionals!

Fading Paint

You will notice that some areas of the home receive more sunlight, which causes the paint color to fade much quicker. If you run a rag across the surface of your home and paint residue comes off, this is a tell tale sign that your home is ready for a fresh coat. This also means that moisture can penetrate your house boards easier and cause warping. The paint acts as a protective shield for your home boards. Fresh paint means a healthy home. Fading paint is not the end of the world and very easy to fix if done in a timely manner.

Decaying House Boards

Peeling paint is a prime opportunity for mold to work its way into the boards of your home. Mold causes the wood to rot, which will eventually result in the decay of the exterior of your home. This is something you don’t want to go unattended for too long. Although damaged wood will need to be repainted, but often replaced and caulked. Not only does rotting wood look unappealing but it can truly compromised the structure of your home.

Chipping paint, rotting wood, and loose boards may be turning your home into the haunted house on the block. Don’t let yours be the one kids avoid while trick-or-treating this Halloween. With a fresh paint job, the ascetics and overall health of your home can be improved! Hensel Painting has years of experience and couldn’t be more qualified for the job.
