Walls, Doors and Even…Floors?

This type of surface, when painted, has a way of transforming both the look and the feel of your home. Tile

The majority of tile in homes makes an appearance in the kitchen and bathroom areas. These areas of the home are wonderful places to get creative and take risks with colors and patterns. If you are looking for a minor change like a new color scheme, painting your tile is a great way to achieve this.

Wood

If the floors in your home are wood, but are in desperate need of new stain or total refurnishing, paint is a wonderful alternative. Not only will painted wood floors add a great deal of character to the interior of your home, this will be a more cost effective choice.

Paint Finish: Which is Best for your Interior?

Paint comes in many colors and also a variety of finishes. Finishes can be categorized by sheen, matte, glossy or clean.  Ultimately, the finish chosen when it comes to finalizing a color for your home depends on the coverage and durability you are looking for. Finish is just as important as the color you choose! Here at Hensel Painting, we believe in keeping our customers informed about the painting process.

Paint is made in 5 different finishes:

An eggshell finish is best described as subdued. This particular style of gloss is what we would choose in a room with medium amount of activity. Eggshell finishes are practical, long lasting, and great in rooms with little potential for moisture. Eggshell finishes do not have much gloss but still  bring an attractive look to any area it covers.

This type of finish is known for its ability to conceal flaws or imperfections on the surface of your walls. Flat or Matte finishes are our first choice when painting a home with older walls. This type of finish allows us to keep the character of the walls in tact while still receiving a fresh coat of paint. One thing we take into consideration with matte and flat finishes, is how frequently the walls are washed or exposed to water.

Known for both its washability and durability, semi gloss has a medium sheen making it perfect for just about any room in the house. We tend to use semi gloss in rooms that experience the majority of the traffic or an area exposed to moistures.

Like, Egg Shell, Satin finishes are easily maintained in busier areas of the interior. This type of finished offers quality covering from surface imperfections or glare. A satin finish is frequently used to paint window sill, trim, and cabinets.

Gloss is the type of finish that offers the best durability! In particular, gloss works well on small surface areas that tend to be older. We use glossy paints as a way to highlight trim on woodwork, architectural pieces and doors.  As a general rule of thumb, the glossier the paint, the more expensive.

Painting Trends: Graphic Wall Paint

If you are considering painting your home this summer, make sure you are up to speed on the latest trends in interior painting. Graphic wall paint is making an appearance in many homes this summer as a way to bring greater dimension and life to a room. The same look can be achieved with graphic prints on wallpaper, however if you have tried to remove wallpaper, you know how difficult the removal process can be. Why risk damaging your walls when paint can give you the exact result you are hoping for? A splash of graphic wall paint could be just the change you have been looking for.

Use All The Walls

If graphic wall paint is something you are ready incorporate into your home, first choose a room that you think this trend will work best in. In order to achieve the result you are looking for, it is important to choose paint colors that work together and don’t overpower the space. Incorporating shapes like triangles and arrows are a great way to create the illusion of a larger space. Graphic paint adds movement and dimension to any room!

Mural style

Mural style graphic art can go perfectly when making changes to a children’s bedroom or playroom. Whatever mural design you chose, a landscape or a scene filled with animals; consider expanding the scene beyond four walls. Consider incorporating the design onto the ceiling. Remember, not all wall murals are often intricate and complex! You can achieve a wonderful result with the simplest of designs.

Accentuate the Space

An accent wall is a great way to utilize graphic wall paint without overpowering the entire room. An accent wall works best when you are striving to bring attention to a single feature of the room.

Step Into the Role of Artist

Re-painting your home is an opportunity to tap into your artistic side. Redesigning your walls with paint allows for that added personal element. With paint, you can pick and choose colors and designs that are completely unique to your home. Decorating with wallpaper limits your home to a pre-created design.

Dangers of DIY

It is no secret that DIY or do it yourself has become a popular trend. From the home improvement shows on television all the way to Pinterest, completing tasks around the house on your own is not only cost effective but also trendy. We think saving money is fantastic, however there are certain jobs that should be left to the professionals. More times than not, painting your home yourself can be more expensive than hiring a pro in the first place.

Yes, painting your home yourself sounds good in theory however, the painting process usually never runs smoothly. There are bound to be a few bumps in the road, bumps that professionals know how to handle. Here are some dangers to keep in mind when it comes to painting your home yourself.

Biting off More Than You Can Chew

We have all been there, when we get overly ambitious. We see a job and think "It can't be that hard." Believing in yourself is a good thing, but if you do not have professional training as a painter your ability to estimate a job is likely to be inaccurate. You want to avoid taking on more than you can handle.

Making it Worse

If your home is in need of some serious help, the goal is to remedy the problem, not make it worse. If you are not a professional painter, odds are that your approach to the job is going to be less effective than a pro. If you run into a problem during the painting process, your solution may just end up creating more of a mess.

Compromising Safety

Paint is a chemical. This means that handling paint should be done with care and caution.  Wearing the proper gear and using the best tools for the job is essential. With professionals, you are far less likely to compromise the safety of your home and even loved one's.

Hensel Painting is dedicated to ensuring a job well done from start to finish. We have years of experience working on our side. Our goal is to complete each job with care and professionalism. Rather than taking on a DIY paint job, trust us to get the job done.

Things to Look for When Hiring a Painting Company

When choosing a painting company to work in, on, and around your home, it is essential to do your homework. There are many things to consider, and doing your research is a must before you even get around to setting up a free estimate. Set aside a few hours out of your day to narrow down your search for the right painting company based on your needs. Here are some tips to help you refine your search and better choose company to paint your home.

Check Credentials

A painting company that has been in business for a while should have solid and established credentials. Make sure that the contractor you are looking into has insurance, a license, and a solid reputation. Make sure that they also have a clean bill of health from the Better Business Bureau as well as from your state’s consumer protection agency. This info usually can be found online, however if you are having trouble you should be able to call the company and request all the information you need.

You Get What You Pay For

When it comes to home improvement the nature of the business is a bit inconvenient for home owners. Improving your home means having a company in your home for a short or long amount of time. When making the decision to hire a painting company be sure that you are comfortable with their methods, values, and communications skills. Cheaper is not always better. Be sure that everyone is clear about the project at hand. If not, you could end up disappointed, frustrated, and possibly out several thousand dollars beyond what you budgeted for.

Communication is Key

Remember, YOUR home is being worked on. That means you should be pleased with the work being done as well as the end result. Having an open line of communication with your painters is essential. Upon your first interaction with the company be sure to gauge whether or not communication is strong.

Here at Hensel Painting, we continue to hold tight to the values that have kept us successful for almost two decades. We work with our clients to ensure that their home's are treated as if they were our own. If you are ready to transform your home, we'd love to be considered for the job! 3 Tips for Choosing Paint Colors

Choosing a paint color for your home is easier said than done. The truth is, many don't realize how many colors there actually are until they start the painting process. Here are 3 tips to help you get on track and choose colors that you'll be happy with long-term.

Start Small

If you do not know where to begin when it comes to color, start experimenting on a small scale like your bathroom or a room you do not use often, maybe even try an accent wall. Look at the process with an open mind.

To get started, select a favorite color drawn from artwork, a rug, or accessory furniture. You can really pull inspiration from anywhere.

Focus on Lighting

There is a reason why paint stores have light boxes. This is to best test paint chips.

  • Natural daylight shows the truest color;
  • Incandescent lighting brings out warm tones and yellows;
  • Fluorescent lighting casts a sharp blue tone.

Depending on the lighting in your home the color should vary. So, a strong color may be too bright and overpowering when used on all walls or next to a large window, but it might be effective when used as an accent wall with indirect light.

Follow the Color Wheel

The color wheel is a good reference tool for modifying two or more colors. You may be surprised at how many combinations can work great together. The color wheel also illustrates the visual temperature of a color. You'll see that all the colors on the left are warm and the colors on the right are cool.

Here at Hensel Painting we will work with you to choose the perfect colors for your home. Our experts have the education and experience to give you the proper guidance you need when choosing paint colors. Be sure to give us a call at (970) 215-9747 to speak with us about getting started.

Painting Your Home: Where to Start?

If you are reading this, you are most likely considering having your home painted. The good news is, we are going to fill you in on the initial steps you should be taking when it comes to improving your home.

Does your home need to be painted?

First off, the big question...does your home really need to be painted? Usually, it is not difficult to tell if your residence could use a fresh coat of paint. A quality paint job usually lasts around 10 years. If your home has met the 10 year mark, it is due for a paint job. But, if you are unsure here are some key signs to look for.

  • Chipping and Peeling - If the paint on your home is peeling, that is an immediate sign that it's time to call in the the professionals. Not only is chipping paint unsightly to look at, but it also can be dangerous.
  • Dry Rot and Decay - If the paint on your home is chipping away, that is when rot and decay set in. Mold can work its way under the paint causing health issues for you and your family.
  • New Color for Aesthetic - Part of the re-designing process often involves new colors and fresh paint. If you want to give your home a new feel, a professional paint job is a great place to start.

How to choose a professional painter.

It is no secret that there are plenty of painting companies out there offering good service. Not every business offers quality service that they can stand by however. A great way to understand if a painting business is the best choice for your needs is to read previous customer reviews online. Speaking with a representative of the business is essential as well. Ask questions! A quality company should be able to clearly and effectively answer your questions.

Here at Hensel Painting we offer professional painting services in Northern Colorado. Our team is ready to work with you to ensure that you home receives a quality paint job. When we are working in and around your home you can rest assured that we will respect your property like it is our own.
